Frida

Frida Kahlo has long been a favorite artist of mine. For years I had a framed version of her photographic portrait on my wall, seemed the fun thing to do for someone who had made so many self portraits. Real reason was that although I love her self portraits, I find it difficult to look at them. But looking at her photo made me think of the portraits and that was enough.

So when the Piece Makers called a challenge to do a portrait, I could think of only one. It was my first portrait ever done, and it may well be my last. I think the face alone took 3 weeks, and was redone half a million times. And still...... But it was great experience, and while doing this portrait learned a lot about how to do it better next time.

I framed the mosaic myself. Another first. Let's just say it took more wood than you'd think.
